Candelario has been named one of "the most beautiful towns in Spain" this title has been awarded to the town for being one of the most touristic municipalities in the province of Salamanca, as well as for its unique architecture, maintenance of its festivals, traditions and customs. .
Strolling through its winding streets and following the showers through which the meltwater runs, we find various fountains, the characteristic bati-doors of the pork houses, the hermitage, the church and the Town Hall, as well as numerous charming corners.
It is a town very involved in maintaining the traditions and customs that our ancestors left us as a legacy.
The holidays are celebrated:
- On February 2, "Candelaria Day", the date on which the chocinera work ended, with the typical slaughter of the pig and the tasting of the chichas. It is an emotional festival lived intensely by the people of the town. After the procession, the women who have been mothers in the last year approach, behind the image of the Virgin, to present their children in the temple.
- On July 26, Santa Ana, its patron saint, with a procession where the typical costume is displayed. These are the major festivals in which, for four days, various events (musical, cultural, bullfighting...) are held that attract a multitude of visitors to Candelario.
- The "typical wedding" is celebrated on the second Sunday of August. It is a popular representation of the wedding rite as it was carried out at the end of the 19th century. Since 2009 declared a festival of regional tourist interest.
In it, numerous people dressed in traditional costumes meet, and it can be said that it is the most appropriate date to enjoy the great variety of these.
- On May 1: procession of the Cristo del Refugio from the hermitage of the humilladero to the parish. A novena is held there, and on the Sunday after its completion the image is returned to the hermitage. It is a party that has great devotion among the neighbors.
- At Christmas in Candelario the representation of the living nativity scene takes place within the framework of the Cuesta de la Romana. A large group of residents and children from Candelario represent the birth of the baby Jesus in the Nativity scene.
- Holy week is lived with great devotion and passion, proof of this is the representation of the Via Crucis of Candelario that takes place on the Cuesta de la Romana. This activity is promoted by the Cuesta de la Romana Association and brings together multiple residents of Candelario who represent the Via Crucis of the Passion of Christ.
House located in the upper area of the town, declared a Historic-Artistic Site.
Being the tallest in the town, the stork nested on its roof, from which its name comes. Built in 1761 as a pork house, it has been restored respecting the traditional style.
