The sand-and-shingle beach (less than 350 metres from your front door) is popular with dog walkers, swimmers, kite surfers, canoeists and surfers. There are also great walks from the village towards either Southwold (1.5 miles) or Dunwich (6 miles). A regular foot ferry runs to Southwold, another fabulous destination with a lovely beach backed by colourful beach huts, boutique shops, galleries, restaurants, and an Edwardian pier. The timeless seaside town of Aldeburgh is 15 miles away, and Orford is 22 miles away, where there’s a 12th-century castle, internationally important nature reserve, and variety of fine food shops.
This characterful home has been meticulously designed to combine the best of traditional and modern, with high-quality furnishings and incredible attention to detail. Follow the front path (with steps) up to the front door, and stroll through the hallway into the impressive lounge. This delightful room sets the scene for cosy evenings together, with a wooden floor, rustic beams and an open fire set within a large, brick fireplace. Sink into the soft seating, pick up a book from the shelves, play music on the record player or stream a show on the Smart TV – the perfect way to slow down and unwind. Continue through to the dining room, which is warmed by a wood burner and has a large table with bench seating for everyone. The kitchen is equally impressive, featuring an American-style fridge/freezer, an island with stools for morning coffee or casual dining, a breakfast area and a wine fridge. French doors to the garden offer lovely views and fill the room with natural light. If you’re keen on keeping fit, there’s also a small gym on the ground floor, along with a laundry room and a WC. Two sets of stairs take you up to first-floor level. From the hall, the staircase accesses three bedrooms, the first of which is an incredible king-size with a roll-top bath in the room: perfect for a luxurious, long soak after days on the beach. This room also has an en-suite WC, and boasts a subtle, sophisticated style that includes simple wooden flooring and a dramatic chandelier. Also on this level are a king-size bedroom and a triple room with three single beds, sharing a family shower room. A second staircase from the kitchen takes you up to the other four bedrooms, all just as beautifully finished as the others. They comprise two king-size bedrooms, one of which has an en-suite shower room, a small double (to sleep one guest) and a single. This floor also has a bathroom and a shower room.
The safely enclosed garden has a pair of loungers for stretching out in the sun, a casual seating area and a dining set for al fresco drinks and meals. It’s a wonderful space in which to enjoy the fresh Suffolk air, and even has a dip-tank pool, with filtered water, for an energising cold-water dip alongside the outdoor shower. You’ll also have the benefit of private parking for two cars.
