Summary: We had a great time in the Weimar/Erfurt area and our apartment was very nice. It had that “home away from home” feel. The beds were really comfortable with wonderfully clean smelling sheets and pillows, lots of towels, the rooms large with closets, and even though we slept in the room facing the road we did not have any trouble (we do use a travel fan). It was nice that the apartment had underground, covered parking for our car. There is bus service available and the buses run pretty frequently. The kitchen was tight for two, but had all of the pots, pans, and dishes for cooking at home. The only regret was not having a freezer. We had to eat ice cream immediately, which turned out okay. The refrigerator was large (by European standards). The tub/shower combo was great and had instant HOT water (be careful). It would have been nice to have a washing machine in the apartment since we really needed to wash clothes after being in Germany for 3 weeks! The landlady was super nice and very helpful when we had WiFi problems in the apartment. She let us use her WiFi to send emails and check weather, etc. until we remedied the problem (the next day) by purchasing an Ethernet cable for connecting our laptop. Apparently the newly installed router was not set up correctly for WiFi, but worked very well for wired connection. I’m sure it has already been fixed. Good thing we had a laptop with Ethernet! The sofa and easy chairs are showing age, but they sure are comfy! The nice supermarket ReWe is only steps across the street and open until 10pm most nights; Sunday the bakery (only) was open in the morning (7:30am -10:30am), which is rare in Germany as stores are usually closed. Note: JUST the bakery was open on Sunday. We visited many places from this apartment location and the views around the area were spectacular. Although the apartment faced the street on one side (kitchen, bedrooms) the view from the living and dining room was of lawn and trees – very peaceful and nice. Also, behind the apartment is a really nice walking (level ground) trail which goes in the woods for quite a ways. If you visit, meet Frau Mund and give her a hug from us!
