This spacious accommodation can cater for a maximum (including children and babies) of 12 people comfortably, with its 3 double bedrooms, 3 twin bedrooms (one of which is on the ground floor), 4 bathrooms, large, well equipped kitchen/dining room and spacious lounge. Outside is a pleasant garden and a barbecue terrace for alfresco dining, there is an above ground swimming pool. There is private parking for 2 cars and plenty on street parking.
The house is situated in the foothills of the Pyrenees on the river Aude between the market town of Quillan and Campagne Sur Aude, making it the perfect location for exploring this beautiful area. With 300 days of sunshine on average per year why not enjoy the numerous outdoor activities such cycling (le tour de France is hosted in this region most years), walking, horse riding, canoeing/rafting, swimming, fishing (either in the river outside the house or at the many local lakes), skiing or visiting the many Cathar castles in the area.
With the Languedoc Roussillon region being the largest wine growing area in France you will easily find a wine for all tastes. The worlds first sparkling wine, the fabulous Blanquette de Limoux is produced in this area.
Surrounding area:
Quillan (3km). Offers many superb restaurants, three supermarkets, a twice weekly market and a night market in the summer months selling local produce and hosts many Festivals. You can also catch a train/bus to visit the UNESCO world heritage site of La Cite de Carcassonne or Perpignan on the Mediterranean for just one euro. Quillan also has its own swimming and fishing/boating lake and outdoor swimming pool. Quillan is known as the gateway to the Pyrenees and offers superb walking/hiking territory and the opportunity to capture amazing views for any budding photographer.
Campagne Sur Aude (2.5km). This beautiful small village has a small minimarket with fresh breads etc available daily, a bar/pizzeria, a post office and hairdressers. There is also a small train station and some wonderful walks through the local vineyards.
Esperaza (4.5km) - Boasts a bustling Sunday market (the busiest in the area), several restaurants, a dinosaur museum, hat museum and honey museum, as well as a thriving artist community and various other attractions.
Alet les Bains (15km) Located between Quillan and Limoux. This town is beautifully situated on the right bank of the Aude River on a small plain surrounded by mountains, a fine medieval spa town is worth the visit. Don’t forget to bring your empty water bottles and fill up with natural spring water and take a tour of the ancient abbey.
Rennes le Chateau (12km) This small French hilltop village offers various conspiracy theories about an alleged buried treasure discovered by its 19th century priest Berenger Sauniere, the precise nature which is disputed by those who believe in its existence. Enjoy a visit to the Chateau and take in the breathtaking views of the surrounding area.
Limoux (24 km) Home of Blanquette de Limoux! There are many Blanquette wine cellars for wine tasting and buying. The town is also famous for its 3 month long carnival starting in January.
Camurac (42km) Our closest ski station, small but ideal for a daily visit.
Ax les Thermes (58km) A beautiful spa town with many restaurants and its own thermal spa centre perfect for relaxing in after a long day of skiing at the larger Ax 3 Domaines Ski Resort, which is reached by cable car from the town centre.
