Châteauneuf-de-Gadagne is a charming town with a Provençal soul, rich in its past, as evidenced by its ramparts. It is also the cradle of the Félibrige, a movement for the revival of the Provençal language, created by Frédéric Mistral and six other poets in 1854. Châteauneuf-de-Gadagne has always preserved its character and originality over the centuries: first a village of lumberjacks, then of winegrowers who still cultivate many parts of the hill classified as Côtes du Rhône. The village inherited its name from one of its lords, Count Charles Félix de Galléan de Gadagne, lieutenant-general of the armies of Louis XIV. He was elevated to the rank of Duke of Gadagne in 1669 by Pope Clement VI.
