DISTANCES - the island itself seems like small, but in the reality there are distances, highs and lows due to the geographical location of the area.
MOVING - it's recommended to rent a car, doesn't matter where you book (directly or close to the beach of Maspalomas there are almost the big hotels, and the private lodging places are located out of the first-line-beach zone). Altough the public bus connections are very good as well.
PARKING - generally problem is parking in the touristical areas or in the capital. But not in the residential zones! There are blue-line-zones, it means that you have to pay for parking and in the downtown you might have to drive around half an hour to find a spot ... It’s annoying in the touristic areas, but I share with you the best way how to avoid this. The residential zones are situated around the touristic areas, in garden-cities, where the parking is for free and always enough places to find one close to your accommodation.
SWIMMING POOLS – It’s good to know, that most of the swimming pools are not heated in the apartment complexes. Sometimes the ocean itself could be warmer in some bays on the south/west part of the island (I recommend you hidden beaches nearby).
WHEN TO BOOK CHEAPER? -the warmest months are july and august, in this season the prices are reduced. From september-october begins the high season and the prices of the accommodations are much expensiver than before. It's worth to book before this season to get discount prices for the winter season.
TRANQUILITY OR NIGHTLIFE – Maspalomas is very big and has two different areas: there is the touristical and the residential zone. If you like to enjoy the nightlife and live with other tourists in your neighbourhood, bars and restaurants in the building, then it is recommended to rent a property in the touristical area like Meloneras, Playa del Inglés or San Agustín. If you like to escape the crowds, live between locals and enjoy the real spanish/canarian atmosphere, then choose properties in the residential zones like San Fernando or El Tablero.
