Masham has a lovely medieval church and a Georgian town square, reputedly one of the largest in the county with a couple of cafes, pubs and shops. Masham is a superb base from which to explore the very best of The Dales with York, Leeds and Harrogate all easily reached within an hour. Once a great Cistercian monastery, Jervaulx Abbey sits five miles to the north of the town and has won the hearts of visitors over the years; though ruined and roofless, it's an atmospheric spot well worth a visit. The beautiful remains of popular Fountains Abbey and its stunning water gardens can be found ten miles to the south of Masham.
